Charlotte Barske wrote several books for children in the 1930s and 1940s, which were published by the Artists and Writers Guild in Poughkeepsie, New York. Her books were generally educational and heavily illustrated. We don’t know how her collaboration with Rex came to be, but he always hoped his paintings would provide children with an interest in learning about birds, so we imagine he found this series appealing.
