Black Turnstone

On the wing these boldly-marked birds appear like miniature Willet. They prefer rocky islands and outcroppings along the Pacific Coast, feeding on barnacles and small shellfish found on these bold surfaces. Brandt says they are self-appointed guardians of the lowlands, pursuing any intruders with persistent onslaughts and fiery courage. No jaegers pass thru their domain unaccompanied by one or more Turnstones with loud battle cries.

EGGS differ from other shore birds' in having ground color, underlying and surface spots, all of olive shades.
