Bluewing Teal

BLUEWINGS are among the most prolific Ducks and when the dozen or more young birds of a family are able to fly they all leave the northern home in early September for warmer countries. They are far more susceptible to cold than their hardier brothers the Greenwings, and seldom winter north of the Carolinas; in fact, most of them spend that season on the Gulf Coast or in South America.

They fly as swiftly as Greenwings and their habits are similar, both preferring fresh water ponds and still rivers to salt water. Their food is nine-tenths vegetable.
