SISKINS seem entirely without any homeland affection. They wander at large over North America but prefer coniferous areas.
Often I have been directed toward one of their conferences by the wailing buzz which rises and falls in synchronized tones that resemble the sound of swarming bees. While feeding, they converse cheerily in short-twits and in Spring give a weaker rendition of the Goldfinch tremolo. They are self-reliant little fellows and I have watched them among Winter spruces feeding and twittering as tho the thermometer was 'way above zero.
North America, south to mountains of North Carolina. In Winter to Gulf coast and southern boundaries of United States.
