Stejneger says the REDLEGS form their own rookeries and do not intermingle with Pacific Kittiwakes. They return to northern islands in May and commence nest building but the homes are not finished until July. They select inaccessible ledges but in foggy weather, when forced close to cliffs, numbers are caught with nets by natives. Young birds are captured, tied by one leg to a stake in front of a hut and become very tame. They have the same gentle manners and graceful flight as their blackleg cousins.
