This is another rare species that prefers circumpolar solitude. They are most numerous in Bering Sea where they associate with Arctic Terns.
They resemble Terns in their flight, the forked tail accentuating the delusion, and run on shore quite like Plover. They are less gregarious than other Gulls being usually seen in pairs or single. The call is a grating, harsh note.
Arctic regions. South in Winter on both coasts of United States.
