JUNCOS occupy the same sacrificial altar among birds as Brer Rabbit does in the animal world. They are gentle, a little slow in perceiving danger, and receive special attention from small Hawks, especially the Sharpshins. A sudden shadow passed the window and only a wind strewn bunch of feathers where a Junco had lived a few seconds ago! Well—they do not all get away with it! Altho keeping well ahead of real Winter, Juncos can endure keen cold and are wise enuf to seek farm homes when snow covers the seed supply.
In April their sweet, even trill is one of the characteristic Bird voices.
