Western Sandpiper

Similar to the Semipalmated Sandpiper in mannerisms, this bird is remarkable for its eccentric habitat. They breed in a narrow strip of territory on the northwestern coast of Alaska and winter in the southeastern United States from North Carolina to Florida. This journey across the United States is not paralleled by any other Shore Bird but is comparable to that of several species of Ducks. Just what route this migration follows is unknown as there are no records from the interior to show which way the birds passed.
