White Gyrfalcon

Only those who venture into the far north see this fearless FALCON. MacMillan says they dominate northern bird life with their swift aggressiveness, building in inaccessible places. Altho one lived within two miles of his home he could seldom see it. Just a rapid white dash and the bird would be gone. An enormous pile of Dovekie bones near a nesting site attested its voracity. Head, wings and feathers were removed and the bodies swallowed whole.

The studies for these plates were made from birds caged in Bronx Park, soon after their advent and while they were still "wild."
