Yellowhead Blackbird

With golden head bent, feet and tail lowered and wings quivering, white patches shining in the sun, a male YELLOWHEAD courting is an interesting sight.

Each pair selects an area of marsh and there is little interference from the rest of the company: when several males are swinging around their consorts, with the early sun glinting on yellow fronts, they form a most vivid and lively picture. The clucks, calls and klee, klee klees do not quite "key" with the display.

In Autumn they flock with their kindred, seeking food and are at home in ranch corrals or open fields, and effective in grasshopper control.
