Aplomado Falcon

Falco fusco-caerulescens

This handsome FALCON is the southern representative of our Duck Hawk. They are a tropical species, wandering into southwestern states and are common in southern Texas. It hovers in midair like our Sparrow Hawk when locating prey and has all the dash and swiftness of the genus.

BREEDING

NEST: a platform of small sticks and plant stalks, lined with grass and located in mesquite or cactus.

EGGS: 3. White blotched with dark brown and specked with lighter brown.

RANGE

Arizona, New Mexico and southern Texas.
