Barnacle Goose

Branta leucopsis

Little is known of this rare Goose. A few sometimes wander into Labrador from their northern habitat and there are records as far south as North Carolina. They were long considered a biological anomaly and one Munchausen-naturalist published a detailed account of the young hatching from a barnacle!

BREEDING

NEST of debris, lined with down, located on rocky hillsides.

EGGS — 3 to 6: white.

RANGE

Northeastern North America.
