Pacific coast region from southwestern British Columbia to Monterey, California.

A tree which frequently reaches 150 feet, with broad base sometimes 7 feet in diameter. Grows in small groves on western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Most abundant at 7000 feet elevation on the sierras of central California.
