Cormorant

Phalacrocorax carbo

Altho still fairly common in Europe, the CORMORANT has become rare here. The males have no idea that they lack beauty. They approach the female, waddling, sink down before her with outstretched neck and tail, holding this attitude for some seconds and looking languishingly at her. They are strong, able flyers on journeys but less skillful in landings. Bent says he watched one make four attempts at alighting on a spindle before it succeeded.
