Field Sparrow

Spizella pusilla pusilla

In back pastures and uncultivated rocky fields, the FIELD SPARROWS "jingle their small change—June silver." The song is given with increasing tempo and is more melodious than the even clinks of the Chipping Sparrow. They are of a retiring disposition, often eluding observation by slipping thru grass with mouse furtiveness. The Summer menu is almost half insects and they are a valuable economic asset.
