Gray Kingbird

Tyrannus dominicensis

Altho larger, the GRAY KINGBIRDS are less courageous and "softer" than the Kingbird. Those I watched in southern Florida showed only meager imitation of the northern bird's pugnacity. They are found far from salt water and on some streams are very common in local groups.

BREEDING

NEST: Usually in mangrove or low bushes, a frail structure of fine twigs and grass.

EGGS: 3 or 4, cream or pale pink boldly splashed with browns.

RANGE

Florida, rarely north to Georgia and South Carolina.

Royal Palm

Oreodoxa regia

A tree up to 100 feet high, distributed on keys of southern Florida.
