Even these dwarfs are not immune to "mobbing" by other birds. Some Hummingbirds are persistent with disagreeable attentions. A male bird bringing food to its sitting mate does not go to the nest, but alights some distance away and calls her to him — evidently a ruse to keep location of the home secret from the "mob."

A tree which often forms broad, low thickets; 4 to 5 feet tall. It sometimes reaches 30 feet and is found southward thru western Texas and the Rio Grande Valley.
