A team of dedicated board members, volunteers, and student interns has published every page in Volume 9. This volume includes 360 images of paintings and lyrical descriptions of birds, now available online for everyone to enjoy anywhere in the world. This is a monumental task. Each volume requires approximately 400 hours to photograph, edit, transcribe, catalog, and publish online. We need your support to complete this work.
If you're tech-savvy, have a good eye, are meticulous with details, and love structured data, please consider volunteering by emailing us at hello@rexbrasher.org.
We encourage all bird lovers and supporters to consider a monetary donation to support our mission to make Rex's work available for everyone. You can provide a one-time or recurring donation online.
Over one of the small Keys in Hawk Channel, Florida, I witnessed the most extraordinary exhibition of aerial mastery I ever saw. Something hidden in the mangroves had excited the ire or curiosity of about a hundred of these buccaneers. Down they fell, feathered-javelins — up — off — then down again! At times they all descended in a phalanx and I marveled how collision was averted. Then they lost interest and swept over us with perfect ease and on motionless pinions — eight feet of wing-spread carrying four pounds of body.
Altho predatory, threatening and compelling other birds to disgorge food, they often seize aquatic food in a long swoop. They never dive and are poor swimmers becoming almost helpless when plumage is wet. The air is their home and there they stay thru calm or storm.
