Rocky Mountain Pine Grosbeak

Pinicola enucleator montana

BREEDING

RANGE

Rocky Mountains from central Alberta, Idaho and Montana to northern New Mexico.

California Pine Grosbeak

Pinicola enucleator californica

Altho tame and unsuspicious as others of the species, they are not generous with their songs. Ray says he never heard a more beautiful serenade than was given by one of these birds from the tip of a 200-foot fir amid the remote Sierra wilderness. Thru the calm air the mellow notes floated over the wild surroundings with a poignancy which accentuated the loneliness.

BREEDING

RANGE

Sierra Nevadas of Central California.
