Texas Kingfisher

Ceryle americana septentrionalis

This miniature of our northern bird has about the same habits, even to a weak imitation of its raucous rattle. They are more belligerent in defending their fishing rights — an intruder is soon chased off the range.

BREEDING

NEST: in bank burrow.

EGGS: 5 or 6; pure porcelain white.

RANGE

Southern Texas.

A tree sometimes 20–25 feet high, distributed thruout Keys of southern Florida; abundant on Key West and Upper Metacombe Keys.
