Southern Plains. Breeds in Sonoran zones from Kansas and (except extreme western part) Texas.

Sonoran zones in Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys and adjacent foothills, California, north to Shasta county and coast region of southern California, south to about latitude 28 in Lower California and on Santa Catalina Island.

Transition Zone of Pacific slope from southern Vancouver Island and Fraser River valley, southern British Columbia south to Oregon.

A small 20–30 foot tree, sparingly distributed on canyon and ridge slopes of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona mountains at 6–7000 feet, among pine forests south of Colorado plateau.
