





In April when Whitethroats are feeding twenty feet from my window I keep a sharp eye on them hoping to see a WHITECROWN among the flock. There are not many times when luck heads my way but there are always a few each year altho eastern Dutchess County is off their migration route. The song is notably different altho keyed in the same plaintive quality.

In Alaska fishing towns these half brothers to the Whitecrowns are familiar and friendly. Their rich liquid song seems a reflex of the windborne murmur of Pacific surges.
