Whitewing Dove

Melopelia asiatica

Finley states that the notes of this fine bird are bold and emphatic, lacking entirely the characteristic melancholy calls of other Doves. Its notes, numbers and whirring flight, with conspicuous white bands on wings and tail, make it one of the best known birds of the torrid cactus deserts and mesquite vallies of the arid southwest.

BREEDING

NEST: a frail structure of twigs; in bushes or small trees.

EGGS: Two. Creamy white.

RANGE

Lower Rio Grande Valley. Casual in Florida, Louisiana and north central Texas.
