Colophon

Nonprofit organizations cannot afford to work with second-rate products and tools. We rely on top-tier products and services to run the Rex Brasher Association with maximum efficiency. We've taken tremendous care to select these products and services, and we are proud to attribute our success to the quality of their work. Our organization would not be possible without them.

Automation

Hazel

Similar to Make, Hazel allows us to automate tens of thousands of menial tasks that are a necessary part of digitizing and maintaining an enormous collection of work. Hazel detects new image files and changes to existing image files and will automatically rename, sort, organize, and add metadata to files instantly.

Make

We use Make to automate tens of thousands of small tasks behind the scenes. Our team of staff and volunteers scan and photograph original artwork and meticulously crop and edit them in Photoshop, but that is just a part of the story. Every image — there are thousands of them — must be synced to our Webflow database after every change. We automate all of that tedious menutia in the background so we can focus on what's important.

Claude

We use Claude for deep research, to correlate details about birds across the 134-year history of the AOU bird checklist and the status of birds on the IUCN Red List, and to help us automate our demanding digitization process.

Data Sources

CornellLab of Ornithology

We use the Clements Checklist and eBird Taxonomy from the CornellLab of Ornithology to verify and correlate current bird names with Rex's 1886 AOU checklist .

IUCN Redlist

We use the IUCN Red List to verify and correlate the current watch status of the birds that Rex painted.
