Melode Brasher

Founding Member

Melode Brasher (1938–2019), Rex Brasher’s grandniece, was a lifelong educator, artist, writer, and scholar. She graduated from Drew University in 1959 and dedicated her career to children, teaching at Dover Public School, Ethel Walker School, and Kent Center School. Melode lived with her parents, Milton and Marie, and sister, Deborah, in Rex’s home for most of her life. She regarded the 116 acres surrounding his home as sacred land and, even in her later years, walked the woods, cleared paths, maintained the family burial plot, and mapped the unique features of the Brasher homestead. Melode was a founding member of the RBA and remained active until her death in 2019.
